Hillside-Berkeley Water Commission

Function

The Hillside-Berkeley Water Commission was formed in 1948 for the purpose of providing water to the residents of the Villages of Hillside and Berkeley.The Commission purchases water from the City of Chicago, receives the water through a transmission system maintained by the Village of Melrose Park, and sells the water to the Villages of Hillside and Berkeley.

Term

6 years.The terms are staggered.(65 ILCS 5/11-135-2.)

Confirmation

One commissioner is appointed by the President of the Village of Hillside and confirmed by the Hillside Village Board. One commissioner is appointed by the President of the Village of Berkeley and confirmed by the Berkeley Village Board.One commissioner is appointed by the President of the Cook County Board of Commissioners and is confirmed by the Cook County Board of Commissioners. Compensation

Eligible commissioners receive compensation in the amount of $2,000 per year.No commissioner who is a member of the governing board or officer of the municipality or county from which the appointment is made may receive any compensation for serving as commissioner.(65 ILCS 5/11-135-2.)

Qualifications

Each commissioner appointed by a village president must be an elector or the chief administrator of the village for which he acts as commissioner.The commissioner appointed by the President of the Cook County Board of Commissioners shall be an elector of Cook County.(65 ILCS 5/11-135-2.)
