The Mission Brook Sanitary District was formed in 1959 to serve an area in unincorporated Cook County with the approximate boundaries of Pfingsten Road on the east, Techny Road on the south (including Citation Lake subdivision), the Tri-State Tollway on the west and Walters on the north with sanitary sewers. In approximately 1963, Mission Brook Sanitary District also started providing potable water to some of its residents.
