April 9th Election Information

Originally published on the Cook County Clerk Website March 13, 2013 More than 2,700 candidates will be running for municipal, school, park, library and fire district offices in suburban Cook County on April 9, 2013, according to Cook County Clerk David Orr. Voter participation in local elections is crucial for residents to influence issues affecting their communities, Orr said. Unfortunately, turnout is often very low in consolidated elections. (See turnout history below.) In the last consolidated election in 2011, there were about 2,100 candidates and overall turnout was less than 17 percent. However, turnout was significantly higher in areas with a hot contest. For example, turnout was 78 percent in McCook, 51 percent in Barrington Hills and 50 percent in Bedford Park. Voters can also view their sample ballot by using the online Voter Information tool. Please note: There are still pending objections to some candidates. The candidates will be updated as electoral boards and the court make rulings.
