Board of Review Commissioner Cabonargi to host property tax appeal seminar on 3/28

On Monday, March 28th at 6:30 PM at the Copernicus Center located at 5216 West Lawrence Avenue, Cook County Board of Review Commissioner Michael M. Cabonargi will hold a seminar with State Senator John Mulroe (10th District), Alderman Tim Cullerton (38th Ward), Alderman John Rice (36th Ward), Alderman Pat Levar (45th Ward), State Representative Joe Lyons (19th District), and State Representative Michael McAuliffe (20th District) on how homeowners can appeal their property assessment and lower their property tax bills. In response to dramatic changes in the housing market, Commissioner Cabonargi is organizing taxpayer appeal seminars throughout Cook County. These seminars are opportunities for individual homeowners to seek relief in their property taxes due to a depressed market and over-valuations to their homes. “The Board of Review can provide real relief to struggling homeowners,” Cabonargi said. “I encourage every taxpayer who feels their assessment is too high to attend our seminar and take advantage of the services we can offer.” The presentation will explain how to file an appeal and how an appeal is granted. Attendees are asked to bring their property tax bills in order to more effectively file an appeal should they feel their residence is over-assessed. Staff from the Board of Review will be available to answer questions and to help complete appeal forms. The only requirement for a review of property assessments is a timely completed appeal form filed with the Board of Review. Jefferson Township closes for appeals on April 22.
