Celebrate Earth Day with the Cook County Forest Preserve

Monday, April 22 is Earth Day. Throughout the second half of April the Forest Preserve District of Cook County will hold special events and volunteer workdays to celebrate the occasion. “The Forest Preserve District of Cook County manages nearly 69,000 acres of beautiful preserves, perfect for hiking, biking, bird-watching, fishing, and many other healthy, family-friendly activities,” said Forest Preserve District President Toni Preckwinkle. “Earth Day is an invitation to explore and reaffirm our commitment to the natural environment. It’s also an opportunity to continue preserving habitat for the millions of plants, animals and other living things that call the forest preserves home.” “We all have busy lives, but we want residents to know that the forest preserves are right there for us to enjoy,” said Arnold Randall, General Superintendent of the Forest Preserve District of Cook County. “The District is working to ensure that more people get the word about all the recreational and educational opportunities the District offers, almost all of which are free. Sometimes it just takes a guided hike through a savanna or a morning with a group of friendly volunteers for people to have that first deeper connection with the preserves.” SPECIAL EVENTS Saturday, April 20, 9 – noon 24th Annual Earth Day Parks & Preserves Clean-Up at Busse Woods Busse Woods, Grove 24 Schaumburg Join Cook County Commissioner Timothy Schneider to help clean up and restore Busse Woods.
