Cook County Assessor Joseph Berrios announced today that his office has certified all 2012 assessment values ahead of schedule and earlier than any other recent City of Chicago assessment.
The 2012 assessment of the City of Chicago took 335 days to complete, 110 days less than the 2009 assessment of Chicago and 172 days less than Chicago’s 2006 assessment.
This was accomplished despite a continual increase in the number of properties that have appealed their assessments during each city triennial assessment. The Assessor’s Office has seen a county-wide increase and a total of 373,174 properties filing appeals in 2009 and 397,618 in 2012, a 6% increase. In 2006, appeals were filed on 262,004 properties resulting in a 34% increase in the number of properties that filed appeals from 2006 to 2012.
“The dedication and hard work of my staff helped accelerate the assessment schedule and finish it early,” Berrios explained. “Their efficiency and hard work will ultimately help in the timely mailing of tax bills and ensure that local taxing bodies receive their funds sooner.”
