Cook County Board Approves Funding to Improve Transportation Throughout Cook County

The Cook County Board of Commissioners approved funding today for transportation-related projects and initiatives led by the County’s Department of Transportation and Highways (DoTH). These vital projects boost economic development, build up regional transportation and improve the quality of life throughout Cook County.

The location, cost and scope of each project is listed below.

City of Northlake | $460,000
Construction of Hirsch Street bridge replacement over Addison Creek.

Village of Bedford Park |$100,000
Construction of 1.6 miles of sidewalk along 73rd Street between Massasoit Avenue and Sayre Avenue.

Village of Buffalo Grove |$40,000
Relocate pedestrian walkway that crosses Arlington Heights Road north of Dundee Road by approximately 400 feet and install new median refuge island serving Buffalo Grove High School and Cooper Middle School.

Village of Elk Grove Village |$125,000
Construction of a 1,000-foot bike path along Oakton Street, creating a continuous connection between the Busse Woods Forest Preserve and adjacent Pace bus stops.

Village of Justice |$69,720
Construction of Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliant ramps and detectable warnings at 24 locations across the village.

Village of Lemont |$125,000
Preliminary engineering/planning services to separate the Centennial Trail from Canal Bank Road, providing a new, off-street path.

Village of Posen |$300,000
Reconstruct sidewalks and curbs to be ADA compliant between 144th and 149th Streets as well as Mozart Avenue to Kedzie Avenue.

Village of Phoenix |$200,000
Resurface and improve drainage along 155th Street, Second Avenue, Third Avenue and Walton Street.

Village of River Forest |$30,735
Install over 600 bike lane symbols and pavement markings in addition to 450 signs along bike routes.

Northfield Township | $200,000
Design/construction services to extend sidewalks on Sanders Road approximately 600-feet between Mission Hills and Oak Avenue.

Villages of Arlington Heights, Elk Grove Village, Palatine, Rolling Meadows, Roselle, Schaumburg and Streamwood | $16.3 million

Pavement resurfacing, curb and gutter replacement and ADA sidewalk improvements along:

  • Euclid Avenue at North Wolf Road
  • Central Road - New Wilke Road to Arlington Heights Road
  • Schaumburg Road - Meacham Road to Martingale Road
  • Schaumburg Road - Sutton Road to East Avenue
  • Euclid Avenue - Roselle Road to Plum Grove Road
  • Nerge Road - Roselle Road to Rohlwing Road
  • Roselle Road - Euclid Avenue to Palatine Road

Villages of Matteson and Richton Park | $1.4 million
Preliminary engineering for the reconstruction of a 1.5-mile corridor along Central Avenue from Sauk Trail to U.S. 30 (Lincoln Highway).

Bloom Township | $1.1 million
Preliminary engineering for the reconstruction of Sauk Trail from Western Avenue to Ashland Avenue, including the reconstruction of the bridge structure over the Thorn Creek.
