Cook County Board Approves Funding to Improve Transportation Throughout Suburban Cook County

The Cook County Board of Commissioners approved funding today for transportation projects and initiatives led by the County’s Department of Transportation and Highways (DoTH). These vital projects boost economic development, build up regional transportation and improve the quality of life throughout Cook County.

The Board approved $931,871 to improve a 1.3-mile corridor along Central Road from Barrington Road to Huntington Boulevard in the Village of Hoffman Estates. Upgrades include the reconstruction of Central Road, the addition of underground sewers to improve drainage and the installation of a new 10-foot-wide multi-use path, which will connect to the Pace Kiss-n-Ride station at the I-90/Barrington interchange.

The Board approved $1,495,405 to improve a 1.9-mile corridor along Sanders Road from Milwaukee Avenue to Techny Road in the Villages of Glenview and Prospect Heights. Upgrades include the reconstruction of Sanders Road, enhanced stormwater management, the installation of a new traffic signal at the intersection of Sanders Road and Winkleman Road as well as a new sidewalk and 8-foot-wide multi-use path.

The Board approved $1,287,766 to improve a 1.25-mile corridor along Busse Road from Golf Road to Central Road in the Villages of Mount Prospect and Arlington Heights. Upgrades include pavement reconstruction with the installation of a new center turn left lane, new sidewalks and a new 8-foot-wide multi-use path.

The Board approved $20 million for roadway resurfacing, pavement reconstruction, bridge and drainage improvements, preparation of plats and legal documents, signal design and various technical assessments throughout the County.
