Cook County Board Approves Funding for Transportation Projects Throughout Community
The Cook County Board of Commissioners approved funding today for transportation projects led by the County’s Department of Transportation and Highways (DoTH). These are vital projects that boost economic development, build up regional transportation and improve quality of life throughout Cook County.

Village of Barrington Hills
DoTH has awarded the Village of Barrington Hills $12,514 for a drainage study along Donlea Road between Butternut Road and County Line Road. Led by the Village of Barrington Hills, the funding will be used to conduct a study in partnership with DoTH that will address the flooding challenges that have previously required the closure of Donlea Road.
Invest in Cook Grants
The following projects are funded by 2020 Invest in Cook grants, which help municipalities further their transportation projects by covering the cost of planning, engineering, right-of-way acquisition and construction associated with transportation improvements.
Village of Riverside
DoTH awarded the Village of Riverside a $50,000 Invest in Cook grant for the construction and construction management of the Swan Pond Bike Path project. This project spans from the southwest side of Millbridge Road to the northeast side of Burling Road. The Village will serve as the lead agency of the project, which will reconstruct nearly 2,100 feet of a 4.5-foot asphalt path to a 10-foot wide, ADA compliant path that will provide enhanced mobility in their community. The construction of this path with ultimately create more access to the Riverside Central Business district and the 55-mile-long Des Plaines River Trail.
Village of River Grove
DoTH awarded the Village of River Grove a $325,000 Invest in Cook grant for roadway improvements along West and Palmer Streets. Approximately 135 trucks use these roadways every day and the high-volume of freight traffic has impacted road quality. The Village will serve as the lead agency for the project, which includes resurfacing and the implementation of traffic safety measures at high traffic intersections along West Street and Palmer Street.
Village of Schaumburg
DoTH awarded the Village of Schaumburg a $145,000 Invest in Cook grant for mid-block pedestrian crossing improvements at six locations. These locations include Jane Addams Junior High on Springinsguth Road, Campanelli Elementary School on Springinsguth Road, Hoover Math and Science Academy on Springinsguth Road, Old Schaumburg Road and Aster Drive (Olympic Park), Salem Drive and Aimtree Drive (Salk Park) and Weathersfield Way at Meineke Recreation Center and Pool. The Village will serve as the lead agency for the project to install enhanced visibility crosswalks, ADA complaint sidewalk ramps, new sidewalk sections, signage and median refuge islands to shorten the crossing distance.
