Cook County Board Approves Funding for Transportation Projects Throughout Community
The Cook County Board of Commissioners approved funding this week to further transportation projects led by the County’s Department of Transportation and Highways (DoTH). These are vital projects that boost economic development, build up regional transportation and improve quality of life throughout Cook County
Intergovernmental Partnerships
City of Country Club Hills
DoTH and City of Country Club Hills are partnering to begin improvements associated with their 2020 Invest in Cook award for the construction of the 183rd Street project. This project consists of pavement repairs and lighting upgrades along 183rd between Cicero and Kedzie Avenues, which is the main social and economic corridor through the community. Roughly 15,600 cars drive this route daily. This partnership provides reimbursement for up to $800,000 for the County’s share of the costs associated with this project.
Village of Melrose Park
DoTH and the Village of Melrose Park are partnering to begin improvements associated with their 2020 Invest in Cook award for the 25th Avenue project. This right of way acquisition will allow for widening and reconstruction of 25th Avenue to create a more efficient flow of traffic between Lake Street and North Avenue, ultimately establishing a more pleasant environment for bicyclists and an aesthetically pleasing corridor for development opportunities. This partnership provides reimbursement for up to $525,000 for the County’s share of the costs for the project.
City of Evanston
DoTH and the City of Evanston are partnering to begin improvements associated with their 2020 Invest in Cook award for the Main Street Corridor project. This project includes the reconstruction of Main Street from Maple Avenue to Hinman Avenue and will improve the sidewalks, ADA ramps, pedestrian access to transit as well as streetscaping and other roadway improvements to support opportunity for transit-oriented development and economic growth. This partnership provides reimbursement for up to $500,000 for the County’s share of the costs for the project.
City of Rolling Meadows
DoTH and the City of Rolling Meadows are partnering to begin improvements associated with their 2020 Invest in Cook award for the preliminary and design engineering of the Algonquin Road and New Wilke Road intersection. This project will improve the last of three intersections at the southeastern edge of the community. The configuration of pavement and traffic signals in this intersection will be improved, creating congestion relief. This project will also connect Arlington Heights to the extensive trail network within the Busse Woods Forest Preserve, completing a gap in the bike path system. This partnership provides reimbursement for up to $87,000 for the County’s share of the costs for the project.
