Cook County Board of Commissioners Confirm Lynne Turner as Board Secretary

Today, the Cook County Board of Commissioners confirmed Lynne Turner as Board Secretary. As Secretary to the Cook County Board of Commissioners, Turner will perform duties for the President and the seventeen-member Board of Commissioners related to the operations of all County Board and Committee meetings.

“We’re so grateful for Lynne’s work throughout the last eight years in county government,” said Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle. “Her work has touched every office, and I can honestly say this place wouldn’t be the same without her. We look forward to continuing to work with Lynne and watch her grow in this new role.”

Turner previously served for eight years in Cook County Government as Interim and Deputy Secretary to the Cook County Board of Commissioners. She is the first Black woman to have served as both Secretary of the Cook County Board and the Cook County Forest Preserve District. Turner succeeds Matt DeLeon who recently retired after 15 years of service as Board Secretary.

“I’m ecstatic to be in this role. As I tell my kids, follow your heart. You have to love what you do to do it well,” said Lynne Turner. “I want to lead by example. I have seven grandchildren and four granddaughters, and I want them to see that anything is possible.”

The Secretary to the Board of Commissioners provides legislative support and information for the Cook County Board of Commissioners, President, elected officials, agencies, departments and members of the public so items can be presented for consideration.

The Secretary to the Board also provides information regarding the proceedings and policies of the Board so the legislative process is efficient, effective, open and transparent.
