Preckwinkle Supports Governor Quinn's Panel to Address State Pensions
Yesterday, Governor Pat Quinn announced that he will convene a panel tasked with addressing the well-documented pension problems currently facing the State of Illinois and governments at all levels. Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle issued the following statement.
“I strongly support Governor Quinn’s decision to take this important step toward solving the pension crisis. I hope that this panel will serve as a vehicle for sustainable solutions and productive dialogue from all stakeholders involved. This is an opportunity for government to come together to address the burden that the unfunded pension liability places on taxpayers, while upholding our commitment to public employees that their pensions will be safeguarded for years to come. Ultimately, state and local governments need to work together to find solutions that fit their individual needs. My administration pledges to be as helpful to the Governor and the General Assembly as possible to craft effective and enforceable legislation.”
