President Preckwinkle Announces Approval of Funds for Major Road Rehab in Hickory Hills and Palos Hills

Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle announced that the Board of Commissioners approved $6.9 million in funding today for a major road rehabilitation project in the cities of Hickory Hills and Palos Hills. The County’s Department of Transportation and Highways (DoTH) is spearheading the project designed to boost economic development, build up regional transportation and improve quality of life for area residents.

Work on the 2.8-mile stretch of Roberts Road between Valley Drive and 87th Street is set to begin in the spring of 2020. Work includes resurfacing of the roadway, curb and gutter replacement, median removal and restriping of the road. Traffic signals along the roadway will also be modernized and interconnected to provide a safe and more efficient flow of traffic.

The current condition of the pavement is at the end of its useful life.

“This project exemplifies our commitment to ensuring robust transportation options for all of our communities,” said President Preckwinkle. “Our goal is to give our residents and visitors safe and efficient options as they travel to their destinations.”

The Roberts Road rehabilitation project is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2020.
