President Preckwinkle Announces Approval of Funds For Major Road Rehab in Wheeling and Buffalo Grove

Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle announced that the Board of Commissioners approved $58.5 million in funding today for a major road rehabilitation project in the Villages of Wheeling and Buffalo Grove. The County’s Department of Transportation and Highways (DoTH) is spearheading the project designed to boost economic development, build up regional transportation and improve quality of life for area residents.

The projects are on Lake Cook Road between Raupp Boulevard and Hastings Lane, Buffalo Grove Road from St. Mary’s Parkway to Church Road, Route 83 between Lake Cook Road and Buffalo Grove Town Center and Weiland Road from Buffalo Grove Road to Woodstone Lane.

Work on these roads is set to begin this winter. Work includes pavement reconstruction as well as drainage, detention, basin and sewer replacement, new bridge construction, bridge widening and modification, retaining and abatement wall installation and realignment of Buffalo Creek. Other improvements include new street lighting, pavement markings, signage, parkway and median landscaping, traffic rerouting and other work as required.

The current condition of the pavement is at the end of its useful life.

“This project exemplifies our commitment to ensuring robust transportation options for all of our communities,” said President Preckwinkle. “Our goal is to give our residents, business community and visitors safe and efficient options as they travel to their destinations.”

The projects are scheduled to be completed in 2023.
