President Preckwinkle, Congressional Leaders and Cook County Health Urge Residents To Sign Up For Health Insurance Before Saturday’s Deadline
Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle today was joined by Sen. Dick Durbin and Rep. Raja Krishnamoorthi, Rep. Jan Schakowsky, Rep. Robin Kelly, Rep. Brad Schneider, Representative-elect Sean Casten, Representative-elect Lauren Underwood, Cook County Commissioner Donna Miller, Cook County Commissioner Kevin B. Morrison, and Cook County Commissioner Bill Lowry to encourage Cook County residents to enroll for health insurance through the Affordable Care Act marketplace. The enrollment deadline is tomorrow, Saturday, December 15.
“The Trump administration has cynically tried to dismantle the Affordable Care Act. If the ACA is dismantled or gutted, our County and our residents will suffer,” President Preckwinkle said. “I want to make sure residents of Cook County have access to affordable, quality health insurance and care. We are in the home stretch. The deadline for ACA enrollment is tomorrow.”
Cook County Health’s Chief Medical Officer Dr. Claudia Fegan encouraged those who are uninsured to get covered up in order to receive regular, primary care to prevent disease.
“As a physician, I see firsthand how important coverage is to my patients. It provides access to primary care which is the best way to improve patient outcomes and avoid expensive visits to the emergency room. We must continue the fight for universal healthcare but until we get there, I want to encourage everyone to take advantage of the coverage that is available,” Dr. Fegan, Chief Medical Officer, Cook County Health.
