Cook County Awards $3.6 Million in Grants to 40 Social Equity Cannabis Entrepreneurs

(Cook County, IL) - Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle announced today that $3.6 million in Cook County Cannabis Development Grants have been awarded to 40 entrepreneurs from communities that have historically faced criminalization, incarceration and exclusion as a result of the War on Drugs. Cook County is awarding the grants to support Cannabis Social Equity License holders, helping to offset the expenses associated with opening and operating a cannabis business in Illinois.

President Preckwinkle Joins Congresswoman Kelly, USACE and Village of Dixmoor to Announce Completion of Dixmoor Watermain Infrastructure Improvement Project

(Dixmoor, IL) - Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle, along with Congresswoman Robin Kelly, representatives from Senator Duckworth’s office, the Army Corps of Engineers and the Village of Dixmoor, gathered today to announce the completion of the Dixmoor Watermain Infrastructure Improvement Project. The project addresses long-term water issues in Dixmoor, which began in 2021 after multiple main breaks resulted in the failure of the water distribution system, leaving Dixmoor without a reliable water supply. The total project cost amounted to $3,026,166.

Cook County Announces $11.5 Million Cook County Water Affordability Program in Partnership with Elevate

(COOK COUNTY, IL) – Cook County, in collaboration with Elevate, announced today the launch of the Cook County Water Affordability Program, a first-of-its-kind initiative designed to assist suburban Cook County residents struggling with their water bills.

The $11.5 million program, funded by the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA), was passed unanimously before the Cook County Board of Commissioners in May 2024. The program will provide water bill relief, residential leak repairs, and water affordability technical assistance for municipalities.

Cook County Hosts First “Community Voices” Meeting to Shape Future of American Rescue Plan Programs

Under the leadership of Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle, Cook County is set to kick off its “Community Voices” event series with the first of four community meetings this week. Cook County Launches “Community Voices” Survey and Events to Help Prioritize American Rescue Plan Programs

Under the leadership of Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle, Cook County is launching a community engagement series to help determine which American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) programs to continue once funding runs out in 2026. From the week of August 1 through September 13, the County will be sharing a  community survey and holding a series of community events to gather input into its priorities.
