No new taxes in balanced budget
(Cook County, IL) - Today, the Cook County Board of Commissioners approved a balanced $9.94 billion FY2025 budget. The County budget allocates hundreds of millions of dollars for equity-focused programs, continued pandemic recovery efforts and vital programs and resources for residents without increasing taxes. The budget passed unanimously, 17-0, following a month of departmental hearings, briefings and the annual amendment process.

Cook County’s Department of Animal and Rabies Control (ARC) has partnered with South Suburban Humane Society (SSHS) to launch the Paw-Some Pets Project, which provides fee waived dog and cat adoptions as well as free large dog spay and neuter services. The initiative begins today and is available to all Cook County residents.

Seven rabid bats have been found so far this year
The Cook County Department of Animal and Rabies Control (ARC) has released an interactive map of locations where bats who tested positive for rabies were found in Cook County. So far this year, seven rabid bats have been found. The Halloween-themed map is designed to raise awareness about rabies prevention.
