Department of Transportation and Highways Undertakes Projects Throughout Cook County

The Cook County Board of Commissioners approved agreements today between the County’s Department of Transportation and Highways (DoTH) with local municipalities. The intergovernmental agreements (IGAs) are designed to bolster community and economic development and quality of life throughout Cook County.

Four Tax Incentives Approved by Cook County Board Designed to Support Economic Growth

Today, Cook County Commissioners approved four proposals from President Toni Preckwinkle’s Bureau of Economic Development (BED) that will provide tax incentives to businesses in Cook County.

The incentives, which will either create new or save existing jobs, were approved in the following communities: Burr Ridge, Lynwood, Orland Park and Schiller Park.  

As a result of redevelopment activities, these incentives should support the creation of an estimated 22 new private sector full-time jobs, 117 jobs retained and support approximately 35 construction jobs.

President Preckwinkle Announces International Accreditation for Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office

Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle this week announced the American National Standards Institute – American Society of Quality National Accreditation Board (ANAB) awarded the County Medical Examiner’s Office International Standardization Organization (ISO) accreditation for forensic testing and forensic inspection.

The Office is the first in the country to receive ISO 17025 for forensic testing and laboratory calibration and only the second to receive ISO 17020 for bodies of forensic inspection.

Cook County Earns Two Achievement Awards from National Association of Counties

Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle and the Cook County Board of Commissioners this week recognized the County’s Medical Examiner’s Office and Office of Research, Operations and Innovation (ROI). Both received Achievement Awards from the National Association of Counties (NACo). The awards honor innovative, effective county government programs that strengthen services for residents.

President Preckwinkle and County Board Honor Military Veterans As Part of Silver Star Service Banner Program

Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle and County Commissioners recognized 17 military veterans this week for their sacrifice and service to nation under the annual Silver Star Service Banner program.

The veterans were saluted for their service in wartime during the Board meeting. To be eligible for the Silver Star Service Banner program, a veteran must have been wounded or become ill while serving in a war zone. The veterans honored served in conflicts ranging from World War II to Afghanistan.

President Toni Preckwinkle Releases Report and Findings Commissioned from the Cook County Anti-Harassment Working Group

Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle today released the report from the Cook County Anti-Harassment Working Group. President Preckwinkle convened the group in October 2018 to review and enhance policies for preventing and prohibiting harassment in the workplace. Her office also conducted a Culture of Reporting Harassment survey, which recorded more than 1,500 responses.

2019 Low-Cost Rabies Vaccine, Microchip Clinics Scheduled by Cook County Animal and Rabies Control

Cook County Animal and Rabies Control released its 2019 low-cost rabies vaccine and microchip schedule. The first clinic is on Tuesday, June 4, from 10 a.m. to 2:45 p.m. at Brookfield Village Hall, 8820 Brookfield Ave., Brookfield.

Clinics are scheduled throughout the summer across the County. A full schedule is posted on the department’s website.

Rabies vaccines and microchips are available to all dogs, cats and ferrets that are three months old and greater. Owners must be Cook County residents.

County Residents Invited to Participate in Update to Preparation Plan for Impacts of Natural Hazards

This week’s storms along with severe weather forecasted in the coming days is a reminder to area residents of the kind of damage a weather event can cause. A number of natural hazards like flooding, snowstorms and even tornadoes impact Cook County.

That is why the County’s Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Management (DHSEM) is updating the Cook County Multi-Jurisdictional Hazard Mitigation Plan (HMP) to prepare for natural disasters and their impacts. And they want residents’ input.
