Applications Open for Cook County’s Free Tech Training Course for Veterans

The 11-week program helps place veterans in tech industry jobs upon completion

The Cook County Department of Veterans Affairs (CCVA) is accepting applications for the Chicago Cook Technology Academy (Tech Academy), a training program designed to provide veterans with critical career skills in the technology industry. Cook County has partnered with Microsoft and National Able Network to offer this free 11-week course, which begins July 22, 2024. Applications are due Sunday, July 14, 2024 at midnight.

Cook County Board of Commissioners Approves Two Housing Pilot Programs

The Cook County Board of Commissioners today approved resolutions for two pilot programs that will assist those seeking affordable, quality housing. 

The Bureau of Economic Development will launch a $3 million down payment assistance pilot program that will defray the cost of down payments, closing costs or buydowns on mortgages for Cook County residents, and a $12 million program to pilot the construction of single-family modular homes in communities of need. Cook County will utilize funds that it received through the American Rescue Plan Act. 

Cook County Board of Commissioners Approves Build Up Cook Intergovernmental Agreements

The Cook County Board of Commissioners approved funding today for construction projects through the Build Up Cook program. These projects include critical water infrastructure improvements such as water main repairs, pump replacements, back up generator replacements, hydrant replacements and valve repairs. The projects also include public building facility repairs, exterior repairs and roof replacements.

Cook County’s Solid Waste Coordinator Recognized by Crain’s Chicago Business as a Notable Leader in Sustainability

Crains Chicago Business recognized Cook County’s Solid Waste Coordinator Anthony Tindall as a notable leader in sustainability. Tindall has served within the County’s Department of Environment and Sustainability (DES) for nearly two years and oversees programs to increase recycling and waste diversion in the County’s suburban municipalities and to inspect and regulate waste facilities such as transfer stations and recyclers.
