Mayor Emanuel and Cook County Board President Preckwinkle Announce Reciprocal Certification for Minority- and Women-Owned Businesses

Mayor Rahm Emanuel and Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle today announced a reciprocal certification program the two governments have agreed upon, which will create crucial jobs in women- and minority-owned businesses in Chicago and Cook County. The new program will allow small minority- and women-owned businesses to be certified by just one government, and have that certification accepted by both entities.

Dept. of Environmental Control and Calumet Township Sponsor Prescription Drug Take-back in Calumet Park

On Friday, April 6th from 8:00 am to 1:00 pm the Cook County Department of Environmental Control and Calumet Township is sponsoring a free Prescription Drug Take-back program.  This event is a low-cost, high-value opportunity to tackle a critical environmental issue.  The EPA has asked people not to flush old medications, as trace elements have been found in groundwater.  Each year, close to 5,000 tons of pharmaceutical and personal care products enter the waste stream.  Many survive water treatment processes and end up in drinking water.  Medicines

President Preckwinkle Announces Small Business Financing Initiative

President Preckwinkle toured Motorola Solutions in Schaumburg, Illinois with Motorola Solutions CEO Greg Brown on Tuesday, June 12, 2012. The purpose of the visit was to give President Preckwinkle a tour of the Motorola Solutions campus, and let her know about their technology leadership, having been located in Cook County since 1928. This is the first time Motorola Solutions has ever had a visit from a County Board President. President Preckwinkle was joined by Herman Brewer, Bureau Chief, Bureau of Economic Development.

Beaubien Woods Event Kick-off by President Preckwinkle

President Toni Preckwinkle on Tuesday kicked off the start of Cook County’s annual Rabies Vaccine and Microchip Clinics at the VFW Hall in Berwyn. The clinic is one of 37 low-cost, mobile clinics the Department of Animal and Rabies Control will host from June through October at various locations throughout the county. “Rabies outbreaks have caused public health concerns in four states over the past two years, and we’re making sure that doesn’t happen in Cook County,” President Preckwinkle said.

Cook County Health & Hospitals System Announces "Step Up, Get Tested" Series of HIV Testing Events in June

A collaboration of healthcare agencies, including the Cook County Health & Hospitals System, the Ruth M. Rothstein CORE Center and other AIDS service organizations throughout the city of Chicago, announced today the launch of a campaign called STEP UP, GET TESTED: ChicaGO for 5K, the first-ever collaborative National HIV Testing Day event series for the city.

Protect yourself and your family during West Nile Virus season

The first mosquito pools positive for West Nile Virus (WNV) in suburban Cook County were reported yesterday by state public health officials. Although the first pools were located in the communities of Lemont and Norridge, officials warn residents throughout suburban Cook County to take precautions. “West Nile Virus is not isolated to one community; all neighborhoods are at risk and residents need to be aware of its presence in suburban Cook County” said CCDPH interim chief operating officer, Sandra Martell, RN, DNP.
