President Preckwinkle Highlights Public Health Benefits Of Cigarette Tax

Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle was joined today by health professionals and anti-smoking advocates to highlight the public health benefits of the $1-a-pack cigarette tax increase set to take effect tomorrow, March 1. “By making cigarettes more expensive in Cook County, we are representing the societal cost of smoking,” President Preckwinkle said.

Reassessment Notices Mailed to Evanston Township Taxpayers

Cook County Assessor Joseph Berrios announced that reassessment notices were mailed today to close to 22,000 residential property owners in Evanston Township. “Our goal at the Assessor’s Office is to ensure that all property owners are equitably assessed,” Assessor Berrios said. “I encourage all homeowners to review their reassessment notices carefully to be certain their proposed assessments are fair and accurate.” Each year, the Cook County Assessor’s Office reassesses one-third of the nearly 1.8 million parcels of property located in Cook County.

Clerk Brown remembers Chief Justice Mary Ann McMorrow

I am deeply saddened by the loss of Chief Justice Mary Ann McMorrow. She was an extraordinary person of great strength, courage and a friend to us all in the legal profession. Her courage allowed her to pave the way for all women in the legal profession, by becoming the first female Chief Justice of the Illinois Supreme Court. We thank her for her wisdom and for being a pioneer, and for a legacy of good governance which lives on. I will always remember her as our teacher of grace, humility and integrity.

Cook County Economic Development Helps Dedicate New Community Center Building in Ford Heights
