Vinecennes Sewer Project
The Cook County Bureau of Asset Management will soon begin an essential construction project to redirect sewer flow that runs underground along Vincennes Avenue between East 50th Street and East 50th Place. This will solve the current problem of sewer line flow towards Provident Hospital instead of away from the facility.
The Cook County Bureau of Asset Management (BAM) is the lead agency for the project, which was approved by the Board of Commissioners.
The construction team includes highly regarded and experienced contractors JLL and MQ Construction. MQ will carry out the work on the site, as well as preparations in advance of construction. The entire team is committed to the safety and wellbeing of area residents, which is the Bureau of Asset Management’s top priority.

Construction
The sewer line work will be conducted on Vincennes Avenue between East 50th Street to the north and East 50th Place to the south. Vincennes Avenue will be closed to vehicles during construction, except for those used in sewer line replacement.
Project Timeline
Preparation for construction site along Vincennes Avenue and the parking lot will begin in mid-December, 2024.
The first month of work will focus on excavation to remove existing materials. Following this will be the installation of sheet, which will result in considerable noise during working hours.
The installation of the new, redirected sewer line will be completed in March, 2025. Asphalt paving will be replaced in late spring, 2025, with all project work scheduled for completion by June 2025.
All work will comply with safety standards as regulated by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), and local municipal authorities. The project team will implement a plan to minimize any dust resulting from excavation and construction.
Daily Operations
Project hours of operation will be Monday through Friday from 7 am to 3:30 pm, with exceptions as needed.
Equipment will include trucks, backhoes, excavators and dump trucks. All vehicles will be staged within the property, with the goal to minimize construction traffic and congestion and to keep the area clean.
The construction area will have a dedicated flagger for traffic control when trucks are moving materials off and on the site.
The goal is to minimize construction traffic and congestion.
Please also note Pace bus operations will continue to serve the area, with details about temporary re-routing shared in advance directly with residents and businesses.
