Cook County Receives Grants That Will Advance Community-Based Projects

Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle and the Cook County Board of Commissioners today accepted annual grant awards from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) to support vital infrastructure, community services and economic development activities in Cook County.

The grants are as follows:

• Community Development Block Grant (CDBG): $ 10,805,545
• Emergency Solutions Grant (ESG): $ 834,885
• HOME Investment Partnerships: $ 6,764,251

“These grants support crucial programs in Cook County,” President Preckwinkle said. "My administration is focusing on the south suburbs through its South Suburban Economic Growth Initiative and a significant portion of these HUD resources will be advancing projects and providing needed services to communities in that region.”

This funding, pending HUD approval, will be used for projects that include infrastructure improvements for communities and businesses. Support will also be provided for shelters and services for veterans, the homeless, individuals with disabilities and other residents in need.  

The Board of Commissioners also approved today CDBG and ESG sub-grants to municipalities and non-profits to implement projects and programs that will benefit low- and-moderate income communities and other vulnerable residents.
