Service Information
In cooperation with the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency and the U.S Environmental Protection Agency, the Department of Environment and Sustainability (DES) operates an ambient air-monitoring network for fine particulate matter (PM2.5 - less than 2.5 micrometers in diameter; PM10 – less than 10 micrometers in diameter), sulfur dioxide, nitrogen oxides, ozone and metals including lead. The network includes 12 sites located throughout Cook County, including in the City of Chicago.

Air quality data can be accessed by the public at www.AirNow.gov and https://epa.illinois.gov/topics/air-quality/outdoor-air.html.
