Cook County Loves the 2020 Census

Cook County officials announced a partnership with Metra today unveiling “2020 Cook County Census Trains” on the Rock Island and Metra Electric lines.

The lines chosen are significant in that they service Chicago’s south side and Cook County’s south suburbs, areas that encompass many hard-to-count communities for Census outreach.

Cook County, City of Chicago, and State of Illinois Senior Leadership Convene to Advance Racial Equity

CHICAGO —Cook County, the City of Chicago and State of Illinois governments as well as representatives from sister agencies gathered on Friday, January 31 at Harold Washington College to learn and discuss how government can advance racial equity at a Regional Equity Partnership Convening. About 200 government officials in leadership capacities participated in half-day workshops facilitated by the Government Alliance on Race and Equity (GARE).

Cook County Board Approves Five Incentives Designed to Grow Vital Communities

CHICAGO  Today, the Cook County Board of Commissioners approved five proposals from President Toni Preckwinkle’s Bureau of Economic Development (BED) that will provide tax incentives to businesses in Cook County.

The incentives, designed to promote economic growth, were approved in the following communities: Bridgeview, Chicago, Chicago Heights, Harvey and Posen.

THORNTON – Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle was joined today by business, philanthropic and community leaders for the launch of the Southland Development Authority (SDA), a new vehicle designed to grow the south suburban economy and promote large-scale investments needed to propel the Southland forward.

Cook County Warming Centers Open as Temperatures Drop

Temperatures could drop to record lows in the coming days. The Cook County Department of Emergency Management and Regional Security (EMRS) reminds residents to take appropriate precautions to protect themselves and their families.

Municipalities and townships across Cook County are opening warming centers for residents. Residents who do not have adequate heating in their homes are encouraged to visit a warming center to ensure they remain safe.

Cook County Prepares for Snowfall

Accumulating snowfall is expected for the Monday morning commute. Cook County’s Department of Transportation and Highways (DoTH) is monitoring conditions and is ready to deploy all resources necessary to keep the 1,500 lane miles the County maintains safe for drivers.

DoTH advises drivers to take extra precautions during storms – slow down and watch for snow plows. The department reminds drivers that because this snowfall is coming so early in the season, they’ll have to take even more precautions because construction projects are still underway throughout the County.
