Cook County Announces $20 Million Stormwater Management Project Implementation Program to Help Protect Communities from Flooding

Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle announced $20 million in funding for the Stormwater Management Project Implementation Program at a press conference this afternoon. The initiative is led by the County’s Department of Transportation and Highways (DoTH). Funding for the program is provided through the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) and will advance 26 stormwater management projects throughout the County, with a focus on supporting under-resourced communities. 

Cook County Announces $790,000 in Relief Grants to Suburban Nonprofit Arts Organizations

Cook County Government announced today that $790,000 in grants have been awarded to 100 nonprofit arts and culture organizations in suburban communities through the Cook County Arts Nonprofit Relief Grants program. 

Cook County Arts is a $5 million pilot arts initiative funded by the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA). The pilot focuses on mitigating the lingering negative effects of the COVID-19 pandemic and strengthening the suburban arts sector in the long term.

Highlights record-low hospital budget gap, strong fiscal position for FY2025

Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle today unveiled the preliminary forecast for the County’s Fiscal Year 2025, showing a projected gap of $218.2 million – significantly reduced from the $409.6 million peak during the pandemic. The hospital system projects no deficits this coming fiscal year, marking the lowest gap of President Preckwinkle’s administration.

Applications Open for Cook County’s Free Tech Training Course for Veterans

The 11-week program helps place veterans in tech industry jobs upon completion

The Cook County Department of Veterans Affairs (CCVA) is accepting applications for the Chicago Cook Technology Academy (Tech Academy), a training program designed to provide veterans with critical career skills in the technology industry. Cook County has partnered with Microsoft and National Able Network to offer this free 11-week course, which begins July 22, 2024. Applications are due Sunday, July 14, 2024 at midnight.
