Cook County Partners with Smart Chicago Collaborative to Expand Open Data

The Cook County Board today approved a partnership between the Bureau of Technology and Smart Chicago Collaborative that will expand the open data the County provides and make it easier for the public to access.

Collaborating with Smart Chicago will increase the County’s ability to find, clean and link data, such as crime and health statistics, to the County’s website.

Cook County Board of Commissioners Passes First Information Security Ordinance

The Cook County Board of Commissioners today passed its first information security ordinance, designed to ensure that information entrusted to all County agencies remains safe, secure, and protected from unauthorized access or use.

The ordinance calls for the creation of minimum information security requirements developed by a multi-agency IT working group led by the County’s Chief Information Security Officer (CISO). The CISO will be charged with reviewing agency adoption and compliance and providing annual reports to the County Board.

Open Data Portal May Improvements

During the past several weeks we have been working on making incremental improvements to the user experience of the data portal. New Annual Salary Data Posted to County Open Data Catalog

On May 14th we added new salary data to the Cook County Open Data Portal containing annual salary information as of May 12, 2014. There are three previous salary data releases on the portal: September 16, 2011, September 22, 2011, and March 5, 2013. Moving forward we hope to release salary data on a quarterly basis. This release contains department names, job titles, salaries, employment start dates, and additional information.

Cook County Receives U.S. EPA Brownfields Grant

The Cook County Department of Environmental Control has received a 2014 US Environmental Protection Agency Brownfields Assessment Grant.
