President Preckwinkle announces more than $83 million in disaster recovery, public safety grants

Following approval of more than $83 million in grant awards at Wednesday’s Cook County Board meeting, Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle announced that her office expects grant revenue for Fiscal Year 2015 to total more than $220 million. This represents a nearly 36 percent increase over the current fiscal year and is $30 million higher than predicted in June.

The Cook County Board approved the largest Multi-Jurisdictional All Hazards Mitigation Plan (HMP) ever completed in the United States at today’s county board meeting. Cook County’s Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Management (DHSEM) spearheaded the HMP planning process.

President Preckwinkle’s ‘Green’ Initiatives Moving Forward

Annual report to Sustainability Advisory Council details progress Cook County is moving aggressively to advance President Toni Preckwinkle’s sustainability agenda through new and existing programs that reduce waste, decrease the County’s environmental footprint and make the County’s use of energy and water more efficient. Preckwinkle’s Sustainability Advisory Council recently accepted a report summarizing progress made during the past year, as well as upcoming and continuing initiatives. The Council was created in March 2012 and is co-chaired by Christopher G. Kennedy, Chairman, Joseph P.

County Workshop to Focus on Business Opportunities for Veterans

Event open to all military vets and their dependents

Cook County Department of Veterans Affairs will host a resource workshop for veterans interested in information about owning a business and entrepreneurship opportunities.

The workshop will take place Monday August 11 in the 4th floor conference room of the County Building, 118 N. Clark St., Chicago, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The workshop is open to military veterans and their dependents, whether or not they work for Cook County.

Cook County Justice Advisory Council Awards $680,000

Grantees include the Inspiration Corporation, WestCare Foundation, Westside Health Authority and Youth Outreach Service 

Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle today announced the sixteen recipients of $680,000 in recidivism reduction grants from the Cook County Justice Advisory Council at an event held at the non-profit Inspiration Kitchens, a grant recipient (3504 W. Lake Street in Chicago.) Six organizations will receive grants of $10,000, and five each will receive grants of $24,000 and $100,000.
