Statement from Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle on the Death of Henry Woods ‘Woody’ Bowman

I was saddened to hear of the death of Woods Bowman in a tragic auto accident last weekend. “Woody” was a fixture in Illinois politics and government for decades. He served with integrity in the state House of Representatives and later, as the County’s Chief Financial Officer under Board President Richard Phelan. Even after he left that position, he remained committed to Cook County, serving most recently as a member of my Task Force on unincorporated areas. I offer my deep regrets at Woody’s passing and extend my wishes for a speedy recovery for his wife Michele.

Cook County’s Justice Advisory Council (JAC) today received approval from the Board of Commissioners to award $700,000 in grants to seven different local organizations. Broadband Connection to Oak Forest Health Center and Markham Courthouse Will Mean Faster Data Transfer for These County Facilities

Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle today announced the connection of Oak Forest Health Center and Markham Courthouse to the County’s 10-gigabit fiber broadband network. The fiber optic cable connection will allow the transfer of digital communications -- including internet, phone and video -- at much faster rates than previously available at these locations. The Cook County broadband network is the result of an intergovernmental agreement with the Chicago Transit Authority (CTA).
