Cook County will again partner with private veterinarians to offer discounted spay and neuter services for pets in February, which is National Spay and Neuter Month. Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle cited the ease of the program which provides discounts of up to $40 per procedure. It is available for up to two pets per household. There are no coupons or bar codes to print, and no limitations on where this service can be performed, Preckwinkle said.

Cook County Board to Consider Approval of Construction Budget for New Central Campus Health Center

Cook County Board of Commissioners will be presented with a proposal for construction of the much-needed Central Campus Health Center, a new state-of-the-art outpatient facility, at its meeting April 13.

The new facility, which will adjoin the current John H. Stroger Jr., Hospital, will provide patients of the Cook County Health & Hospitals System (CCHHS) with improved health care delivery and consolidate many functions now housed in three buildings that have passed their useful lives.

Cook County Board Approves $9 Million in Loans for Affordable Housing

Funds to be invested in affordable housing projects in Ford Heights, Hines, LaGrange, and Park Forest Construction and/or rehabilitation is anticipated this year on four projects to develop affordable housing as a result of loans totaling $9 million from Cook County's HOME Investment Partnership Program.

The projects, whose loans were approved by the County Board today, will yield 311 units of affordable housing. Development of affordable housing is a key initiative of my administration, said Cook County President Toni Preckwinkle.

Cook County’s No Cash Bid Program Advances

Communities seek tax delinquent properties to return them to productive use

Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle announced that many of the 37 taxing districts participating in Cook County’s No Cash Bid Program have started to receive their Certificates of Purchase.

The program is one of the Cook County’s economic development tools that assists municipalities and other taxing bodies acquire tax delinquent property for reuse as private development or for tax-exempt municipal use.

Cook County Announces Intergovernmental Agreement With Northern Illinois University

An Intergovernmental Agreement (IGA) between Cook County and the Board of Trustees of Northern Illinois University (NIU) will provide the County with assistance in technology-related initiatives involving regional public partners. The IGA was approved by the Cook County Board of Commissioners last week.

The agreement allows the County Bureau of Technology (BOT) to leverage NIU’s expertise to draft future broadband and networking intergovernmental agreements with regional partners. The contract extends from April 15, 2016, to November 30, 2019.
