Robust outreach and assistance campaign leads to high participation rate - final 3,250 participants to be selected by lottery in coming weeks

(COOK COUNTY, IL) — Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle on Thursday unveiled a proposed $8.75 billion Executive Budget Recommendation for Fiscal Year 2023, which includes millions in funding for equity programs and pandemic relief without increasing taxes or cutting essential services.

(COOK COUNTY, IL) — Today, President Toni Preckwinkle reminded residents that the Cook County Promise Guaranteed Income Pilot will be opening its application portal later this week. Eligible Cook County residents will be able to apply for the pilot beginning Thursday, October 6 by visiting promisepilot.cookcountyil.gov. The application portal will remain open until October 21.

Applications for $10,000 Grants to Open on October 3

CHICAGO—Today the Cook County Bureau of Economic Development announced the launch of the Source Grow Grant through the Cook County Small Business Source, a program that strives to support, grow and elevate small businesses as the backbone of Cook County’s economy. The Source Grow Grant program will award $71 million in grants to thousands of small businesses beginning in 2022. Applications will open on October 3.

The Cook County Board of Commissioners approved funding today for transportation-related projects and initiatives led by the County’s Department of Transportation and Highways (DoTH). These vital projects boost economic development, build up regional transportation and improve the quality of life throughout Cook County.

(COOK COUNTY, IL) — Today, the Cook County Board of Commissioners unanimously passed the Wheel Tax Elimination Ordinance, which will permanently end the County’s vehicle registration fines and fees. The ordinance, authored by Commissioner Kevin Morrison, will create new savings for working families by reducing the costs of owning and operating a vehicle in unincorporated Cook County.

Eligible Cook County residents will be able to apply for the pilot beginning October 6 and will have until October 21 to submit their application.

Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle announced $10 million for the Neighborhood Revitalization Brownfield Remediation program at a remediated brownfield site in Bellwood, Illinois today. The program is spearheaded by the Cook County Department of Environment and Sustainability (DES) to assess and remediate contaminated brownfield sites in suburban Cook County to promote economic growth and investment through redevelopment for businesses, housing, parks and other uses that benefit communities. The County began accepting nominations for site selection today.
