Cook County to Distribute $40 Million in Funding to Small Businesses Impacted by the COVID-19 Pandemic through the 2023 Source Grant

(COOK COUNTY, IL) —Today, Cook County President Toni Preckwinkle and the Cook County Bureau of Economic Development announced the launch of The 2023 Source Grant through the Cook County Small Business Source, a program that strives to support, grow and elevate small businesses as the backbone of Cook County’s economy. The 2023 Source Grant will award $40 million in grants to thousands of small businesses across the County in early 2024 with funds provided by the American Rescue Plan Act.

Cook County Named Top Ten Digital County by the Center for Digital Government Four Years in a Row

COOK COUNTY — For four years in a row, the Center for Digital Government (CDG) named Cook County one of America's Top 10 Digital Counties with a population of more than one million. The 2023 award identifies the best technology practices among U.S. counties, including initiatives that streamline delivery of government services, encourage collaboration and shared services or enhance cybersecurity.

President Preckwinkle Reminds Residents County Wheel Tax Eliminated Starting July 1

Today, Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle reminded residents living in unincorporated Cook County that one less tax exists in the area as the repeal of the Cook County Wheel Tax went into effect starting July 1. Sponsored by Cook County Commissioner Kevin Morrison, the County Board voted unanimously to repeal the tax during its September 2022 board meeting.

Cook County Issues Disaster Proclamation for July 2 Storms and Flash Flooding

Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle issued a disaster proclamation today for suburban Cook County in response to storms that hit the region on July 2. Several rounds of storms dumped nearly nine inches of rain in less than 24 hours in parts of the County, leading to severe flooding and other storm damage. Berwyn, Cicero and Stickney were the hardest hit suburban Cook County municipalities.

Cook County, Chicago, Arise Chicago Share Increased Minimum Wages Effective July 1

Today, the Cook County Commission on Human Rights (CCCHR), City of Chicago Department of Business Affairs and Consumer Protection (BACP), and Arise Chicago shared the increased minimum wages that will take effect in Chicago and Cook County tomorrow, July 1, 2023, and encouraged employees to check their check to ensure the increased wages are represented in their next paycheck.
