PROJECT OVERVIEW
DoTH is proposing improvements to 108th Avenue between 167th Street and 159th Street. This 1-mile corridor is located in the Village of Orland Park and is a vital roadway serving an average of 8,000 vehicles daily traveling to nearby residences, businesses and schools.

108th Avenue is a 2-lane roadway with intermittent sidewalk along the east and west sides of the corridor. Improvements are needed because the pavement is in poor condition, there is a lack of continuous pedestrian and bicycle facilities, there are more frequent vehicle collisions at certain intersections and the Marley Creek culvert is reaching the end of its useful life.

The proposed improvements include:
- Add 12-foot flush median to provide additional separation between the opposing traffic lanes and to provide safe storage for left-turning vehicles
- Add exclusive left turn lanes on 108th Avenue at Winterset Drive, Grants Trail, 165th Street, 163rd Place, Bear Island Avenue, Anthony Drive, 161st Street and 160th Street
- New 8-foot shared-use path on the east side of 108th Avenue from 167th Street to 159th Street
- New 5-foot sidewalk on the west side of the roadway between Anthony Drive and Century Junior High
- Improved grade crossing at the Metra Southwest Line
- Reconstruction and extension of the Marley Creek box culvert
- Add pedestrian crosswalks and ADA ramps
- Modernize the traffic signals at 167th Street

Due to the complexities involved in reconstructing the Marley Creek culvert, a short-term (4-month) detour will be needed during construction. Details regarding the detour are included below.
- Complete closure of 108th Avenue between 163rd Place and Bear Island Avenue is needed to reconstruct the culvert
- Duration 4 months (anticipated in the 2028-2029 time frame)
- 108th will be open to local traffic only during the detour. Properties north of Marley Creek will only be able to access their property from the north and properties south of Marley Creek will only be able to access their property from the south
- 163rd Place will remain fully accessible via 104th and 108th Avenue

- Improved pavement condition
- Increased safety for vehicles, pedestrians and cyclists
- Drainage improvements to prevent roadway flooding and reconstruct the Marley Creek culvert
- Decreased congestion during peak traffic times
- New proposed shared-use path for bicycles and pedestrians and improved sidewalk connections
- Maintain and modernize what already exists
- Promote equal access to opportunities
- Prioritize transit and other transportation alternatives
The preliminary engineering phase of this project is nearing completion and DoTH is seeking community feedback. During this phase, the project team developed several design alternatives and conducted environmental and engineering studies to determine the preferred alternative.
Both agency and community input will be considered throughout this phase. After the final design of the preferred alternative, the next phase of the project begins with preparation of construction documents.
